Gardening requires patience.
It takes months for seeds to crack open in the earth and start growing their first green shoots.
In those dark months, important work is taking place below the surface.
Though nothing is visible yet, the gardener trusts in the process, knowing she’ll soon see signs of life.
We accept this about the earth, yet we’re not so tolerant with ourselves.
Hardwired to believe in masculine ideals of success, we expect results to come through hard work and a push for certain outcomes. If those results fail to arrive within an allotted timeline we believe we’ve failed and need a different strategy.
With no patience to wait for our seeds to sprout, we start digging up the whole garden so we can start over.
I’ve learned through growing a business that the times I wanted to retreat and tear everything down because it wasn’t working, were when I most needed to expand and trust fully in my vision.
That the insecurity I was feeling was not a sign I should run back to the safety of a job, but to commit to what I’d already planted and have faith that my garden would grow and thrive.
It’s not always easy to have faith in the quiet call of your inner knowing.
It often makes no practical sense. It suggests the path less travelled rather than the safer option.
But the reaction in my body will always reveal the truth. When it’s a feeling of lightness and possibility, it’s a big fat cosmic yes.
When you decide to follow that call and throw yourself into your career, business and life wholeheartedly, your relationship to risk changes dramatically. You’re driven more by excitement than fear. You see that your happiness is not some distant ideal, but available in the here and now.
If you’re ignoring those niggles and dreams because they don’t seem practical, think about what kind of life your self-doubt is handing you.
And what might be possible if you trusted yourself instead.
You’re not here to watch life from the sidelines.
The time is now, and you are ready.
If you need support to bring your dreams to fruition or get clear on what’s next for you, I’m currently accepting new clients for my three month coaching program. Sign up here for a preliminary chat, or book a career coaching appointment (available in person at Malvern or via Zoom).
