Over the years I’ve tried many different goal-setting methods. Lists of what I want to be, do and have. Goals that make me feel how I want to feel. These days I don’t set goals at all, only intentions for what I want to call in. It feels more organic and fluid.
My New Year’s Ritual is less about writing lists, and more about tuning into the energies I need to work with right now. I use a tarot spread but you can also meditate or journal on these questions.
- What energy is on the way in for me this year? You can do this for each area of your life, or you can just have one major theme that you work with. My theme for this year is Abundance.
- What do I need to leave behind from the year just past?
- What is naturally falling away at this time?
- What do I most need to call in now?
- How can I move more deeply into my purpose?
- What blocks are in the way of me doing this?
- How can I best deal with these blocks? Which practices will be helpful?
After you’ve meditated or journaled on these questions, consciously welcome the energy that’s on its way and call in whatever it is that you need.
If your theme for the year is abundance, visualise yourself planting new seeds that represent this energy. You can call in what you need by writing a list, lighting a candle, saying a prayer, or simply asking for it to come to you in the best form possible. When you do this, assume that it’s being taken care of and feel that it’s already on the way to you. You can use visualisation and affirmations to anchor it in:
I expect only the best to happen and it does.
Remember that it’s not so much about setting goals as it is about your intention. You can call in a new car if that’s what you want, but it’s more about the energy that represents. What will the new car offer you? If it’s peace of mind, call that in instead and let that take whatever form it needs to. In this way we allow ourselves to co-create with Source, instead of dictating exactly how our outcomes should look.
Once you’ve completed this exercise do something to raise your vibration. It might be creating a piece of art, spending time in nature, preparing your favourite meal, or reading a book. Any activity you find nurturing is ideal.
One practice that will always raise your vibration is gratitude. Even if you are feeling a lack and you want to call in more abundance, spend time feeling thankful for what you already have. There are so many people living with less. If you feel moved to, you can donate some money to a cause, or if that’s not possible, spend time sending love to someone who needs it. You might think it has no impact but that’s not the case. Think about the people who’ve helped you in your life and send them gratitude and blessings too.
That’s my New Year’s ritual. I hope you find something here that resonates. In terms of timing, it’s not so important. Sometimes you need a couple of weeks to feel into the new year so there’s no rush.
Whatever it is that you’re looking forward to, I wish you a very Happy New Year. May it bring you many blessings.
